Travelling to the Algarve

Carvoeiro is on the coast line, just forty minutes west of Faro airport. Many airlines serve Faro, and British Airways, EasyJet, Monarch, Ryanair, Jet2.com and Norwegian all offer low cost seats throughout the year from most airports in the UK. Flight time is approximately two hours forty minutes. We recommend a comparison website such as skyscanner to find the best fares. If you prefer to drive, the journey can be halved by taking the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander or Bilbao. The cruise is about twenty-four hours but cabins are available so is fun for the whole family. It’s advisable to plan an overnight stay in Spain to break the journey up, before the final drive through Portugal.

About Carvoeiro

Carvoeiro was a very small fishing village that has lost any resemblance to its modest origins. In 1965 a foreign resident wrote - “the mode of living remains essentially medieval”. Then there came the tourists and the money. Today, the village spreads to the east and west with expensive villas and comfortable holiday apartments. The streets leading to the beach are lined with bars, restaurants and tourist shops. Happily, there are still examples of the older quaint small houses tucked in between the lush villas. Carvoeiro is surrounded by world class golf courses, tennis clubs and fun attractions such as water parks, but the beautiful sandy beaches basking in sunshine are what all ages remember.

Travelling to Carvoeiro

There are many car hire companies to choose from, but we recommend using well-known brands. Most of these are located at the airport, and are easily found when you exit the terminal. To find the best deals, we recommend using portals such as Rentalcars.com, who only use reputable brands and provide reliable information. Prices vary depending on the time of year, and like flights, they increase closer to the booking time, especially in high season, such as July and August.
If you are not hiring a car, a taxi will cost approximately 70€ to Carvoeiro. ‘Yellowfish Transfers’ also provide shuttle busses to Carvoeiro, and guests have given them good reviews.

Eating Out

There is plenty to do in Carvoeiro if you prefer not to spend all your time relaxing around the pool and gardens at Casa joy! Carvoeiro is acclaimed for its extensive range of eateries; the main street going through the town is fondly known as ‘Restaurant Hill’. The choice of cuisine in the town is impressive, and will suit all tastes and budgets. Restaurants range from classic Portuguese, Italian, steak restaurants, Greek, Chinese and Indian, and the first Michelin Star restaurant has recently opened near Carvoeiro. Some recommendations include; Primavera, Villa Medici, The Wolf Bar and Burger Lounge, Maximes, Onze, Ele & Ela and the Terroir bar. Whatever your taste and budget you will have plenty of choice.
